Luckily, this is rarely an issue with current iPad keyboards. Long battery life: The less you have to worry about your keyboard’s battery dying, the better. We primarily look at models that come from known brands offering solid customer support and a good warranty, but we don’t entirely exclude popular models from less-established companies. A reputable brand: Keyboards have lots of moving parts, and cheaply made ones tend to have reliability problems. An Apple Pencil holder: All current iPads support the Apple Pencil, so having a way to securely carry one with you-often in the form of a flap that holds the Pencil in place while it’s magnetically attached to the side of the iPad-is a small but appreciated feature.Multiple angle options: Multiple angles for propping up your iPad give you more flexibility in terms of ergonomics, comfort, and avoiding screen glare-but at the very least, a case should offer an angle that lets you comfortably view the screen but isn’t easy to tip over.An easy on-off design: We appreciate keyboard cases that make it simple to leave the keyboard behind when you don’t need it so you aren’t forced to carry extra bulk and weight.
It also shouldn’t take up too deep a space on your desk.

VBESTLIFE Wireless Smart Keyboard for Ipad pro 12.9in Portable Tablet. Now if I could just have mechanical keys and a cover with a stiff hinge and a cover that swung out of the way, I’d completely sated. DTTO Case for iPad Pro 11 Inch 2nd 3rd Generation 2021 2020 2018 Ultra Lightweig. Apple has hit it out of the park with this generation. It’s not a huge deal, but if you’re clutter-adverse, giving up a compact all-in-one system for something that’s frequently broken into parts stings a bit. Apple Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad Pro 12.9 (5th Generation) (English). If you’re like me and using your iPad for things like reading comics, you’ll find yourself frequently leaving the keyboard behind as you pop off the tablet to read unencumbered. The cantilever that lets you get the perfect viewing angle for your iPad doesn’t fold back flat like the Smart Keyboard Folio does. My biggest complaint with this latest configuration, however, is a result of the Magic Keyboard’s greatest strength. The integrated trackpad, while of dubious use even in the latest version of iPadOS, solves one of the biggest problems I’ve had with tablet typing cases all of that wasted real estate just begs for you to thumb the cursor into place as if you were on an actual laptop. The scissor switches are a giant leap over the membrane chiclets of the Smart Keyboard Folio, but I still long for portable mechanical keys like Razer’s. Here we are, four years after my initial experiment began and while I’m not ready to say that the latest iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard are the definitive solution, they’re pretty damn close. That earns the “magic” moniker in my book. I don’t know how Apple managed to fit such a solid keyboard into a space that’s not much thicker than the 1mm travel allowed for the keys in the first place, but they did.
Thickness-wise, the Magic Keyboard and the Smart Keyboard Folio are practically identical. IPad 2018 (top), iPad 2020 (bottom) Anthony Karcz
